Resolute

As a kid back in the 80's I used to run home from school to catch those GI JOE movies that used to come on every half hr at 430 pm. Those were my favorite shows back in the day and were extremely deep. I remember how uneasy I felt when Snake Eyes got caught in the arctic and trapped in a radiated room. He was basically fuxed, but he saved the team. I recall when they used to have the illest weapons, kung fu, fight scenes and crazy costumes. I don't know how old you guys are, but in the early to mid 80's all kids wanted to be 1 of two things. A Ninja or a wrestler. GI Joe was a mix of all of that, plus the toys and weapons that came with them were unmatched. You used to have full bases to build and a lot of different characters and weapons. I think playing with those damn action figures back then as a child helped formulate a lot of the creativity I still possess to this day. I remember taking characters and building my own worlds around them, go outside and make obstacle courses, set some on fire(which I almost got my ass kicked for) and just stay creative. GI Joe toys were aggressive, so was the cartoon, and I think about how the world was with the threats of war with Russia and Nukes and all that and I reflect back to how aggressive things were. The time we live in now isn't sweet, even tho a lot of these kids are growing up playing with Yu-Gi_OH and staying inside to play computer or video games and listening to MC Hot Pink. I just think about how I grew up, yes we had the arcades and Atari and Nintendo(later) but we also were outside playing basketball, stickball, wallball and fighting with each other. Rock wasn't Jonas Brothers either....I mean when Phil Collins and Boy George make these kids look like pussies we have a serious problem. I say all that to say this. I'm glad Adult Swim is bringing back GI Joe and I will mos def be tuning in. Plus I'm loving how they kept the original animation with a Manga twist.

off center

PhotobucketSometimes I shock people with some of the things I like and appreciate. Anybody reading the blog knows I'm a HipHop generation dude with a varied and worldly taste for arts, music and womens. Last night I was listening to some old mixtapes and began to realize that although I have my biases like we all do, I generally give credit where it's due. I still look at things from a street cypher perspective. By that I mean that HipHop had a filter and it was the cypher. Like Krs 1 once said "you're not an mc until you first impress your own household with your skills, after you get respect in your own house, you then battle and cypher with the mc's on the street, once you get nice enough and get REAL respect from those cats, you next have to be able to rock the houseparty and after you pass that level, you're ready for the stage and nice enough to be considered a credible mc." Well those days are over. Now it's you become an mc based on the equipment you bu ie. studio, protools etc. You may get a deal before you even do 1 show or cypher ie. Asher Rothsisthes. I still can't give credit to mcs who have not paid dues. One mc I give more and more credit to(altho I always thought was aiight) is Fabolous. The kid i nice in a traditional mc sense. It just so happens that he can spit for the chicks and make catchy hit records too. He gets alot of hate from the backpack crowd( actually the wanna be backpack crowd) for that fact. You ain't supposed to spit about chicks and jewelry for them. These same cats also hated a similar mc named B.I.G(before he passed away anyways).

This post, I'm giving Fab some shine for being able to hold it down. This kid is a future king of the game and truly should set a standard for the new cornballs that are coming out based on strictly marketing rather than actually having that raw spit. Now if only he can match the intensity of his mixtapes with his albums.

My brother sent me a wii, but I go back to walking the block in West Philly, getting some Wise Onion Rings, some Now n' LATERS, a Welch's grape soda and CHANGE. I told y'all about me and Donkey Kong, but Space Invaders,Supa PacMan,Frogger(which I had the mini handheld arcade style joint to) and DigDug had me caught up for hours as a kid. Then it was back to the block to play stick or whiffle ball. Icee trucks, fire hydrants and listening to the radio on your front steps. Now that culture was REAL. That's why sometimes I feel like we were cut from a totally different cloth.
